Foundation only
This module prepares you to enter an approved EMT course. It does not provide certification, course credit, local protocols, or authorization to perform EMS skills.
Understand what EMT school will ask of you
Start with realistic expectations so the workload is not a surprise.
Knowledge
Expect reading, lectures, vocabulary, quizzes, written exams, and frequent connection between body systems and patient findings.
Hands-on skills
Skills improve through repeated, coached practice. Watching a video or reading a checklist is not the same as performing under instructor observation.
Patient assessment
EMT school asks you to organize safety, immediate threats, history, examination, vital signs, treatment, communication, and reassessment.
Time
Plan for class, travel, reading, assignments, skills lab, clinical or field time, and several short review sessions each week.
Do this before moving on
- Put all known class dates and obligations on one calendar.
- Choose two or three repeatable weekly study blocks.
- Identify transportation, childcare, work, or technology problems early.
- Make a plan to ask for help quickly instead of waiting until the end of the course.
