Guidance: **BVM** if ventilation is inadequate (slow/shallow/poor tidal volume or altered mentation). **CPAP** for severe respiratory distress with **adequate** respirations (e.g., CHF pulmonary edema or COPD exacerbation), when allowed by protocol and no contraindications.
